Software Architecture Description Template

Nick Rozanski and I have finally got our act together and finished the architectural description template that we've been promising various people for quite a while. We've published it on our Viewpoints and Perspectives website.

SPA 2009, ACCU 2009 and DevWeek 2009 Calls for Speakers

Obviously "that" time of year has arrived again because SPA 2009, ACCU 2009 and DevWeek 2009, are all looking for session proposals for their conferences in March and April next year. If you've got something interesting to say why not submit a proposal?

Speaking at JAOO 2008

I'm thrilled to be able to announce that I'll be giving a talk based on my Top 10 Software Architecture Mistakes article at the JAOO 2008 conference in Aarhus (Denmark) in October. JAOO is a long running conference with a fantastic reputation for drawing an international audience of interesting speakers and very accomplished attendees, so I'm really looking forward to being there.

Hiring at BGI

I work for Barclays Global Investors in London, as the software architect responsible for a new bespoke portfolio management system. We have occasional openings for great software engineers in both London and San Francisco to work on this project. Our standards are pretty high, so drop me a note if your standards are high too and you're interested in working on an interesting new financial system (with no dodgy vendor packages involved). Book

I am co-author, with Nick Rozanski, of a book on software architecture, entitled Software Systems Architecture: Working With Stakeholders Using Viewpoints and Perspectives (published by Addison-Wesley). Our book is a practitioner-oriented guide to designing and implementing effective architectures for information systems. It is both a readily accessible introduction to software architecture and a useful handbook of well-established best practices. It has recently been added to the SEI's Software Architecture Essential Bookshelf.
